Pursuit of Kain

"Nowhere to Run"

Danger has long loomed over Dark World. No one is safe from the horrors beyond the safety of Kain's Kingdom. Even in Kain's Kingdom, safety and life is not guaranteed. All fears the Nemesis. The Nemesis, brought into existence by Kain, was formed to counter any attempts made by enemies to compromise the kingdom. After the army was established, Kain found new reason to have them. Since it was so big and powerful, Kain figured it was the perfect army. He kept the Nemesis to keep the civilians in line. Kain knew that if the civilians didn't respect or fear him, he would not keep their loyalty. Now, with Kain's disappearance, the Nemesis patrols non-stop throughout the kingdom. Guards are on a constant watch of the walls and gates leading in and out of the main city, Gaiden. Everyone leaving must sign out and be checked, but everyone coming in is jailed and interrogated for three weeks. Few come out alive.
Though not all of Biosoldier's militia was doing its job, the most important eight were. These eight stumbled onto a path in the Illusion Forest. A winding path filled with treacherous obstacles and demonic hordes. The eight men ran into none of these. A fork in the path, marked by a defiled, mangled corpse, gave new light to the chase. In the bark of a tree, carved in large letters, read: "Kain was here...and he didn't like it." The soldiers followed the path closest to the tree. Eventually, they ran across a hobo sitting on the edge of the road. He was leaning against a tree while drooling over his fifty-dollar bill. Upon wrestling the fifty away from the hobo, the soldiers demanded to know where he got the money. "I gots my ways," stated the hobo, nonchalantly. A swift kick to the ribs got the hobo to explain. "Okay, some guy paid me to scare some chick. I swear that's where I got it."
"Where did he go?"
"That way." The hobo pointed in two completely separate directions. Four men went one way, and four men went the other. The hobo fell asleep instantly, only to be bit by a squirrel. Yes, those squirrels can be vicious. Four soldiers found their way to a grouping of caves. They began searching these caves, unknowing that the other four were perilously hanging from a vine, over a sea of giant Mars Human Traps (the cousin of the Venus Fly Trap).
Off in the far reaches of space, the moon colony of Bingo starts its election parade. Vladimir Forin waves to all his political fans. Forin stands for the Communism Party. He had quite the strong backing. His running mate is Shen Tzu-Long. Shen is well known for his famous "Throw Out Transmetal For The Good Of The Colony" campaign. He almost succeeded, if it had not been for Transmetal's counter attack from Kain's cannon blasting business. Shen Tzu-Long believes that Transmetal isn't a man that can lead a colony into a peace or war effort. He's probably right. Though Vladimir Forin is running for presidency, Shen is truly the brains of the operation. Transmetal's running mate is...a parrot named Gerbil. He might have some trouble with this one.
The four, militia soldiers found their way into the Cave of Serenity. They searched through out the cave, finding nothing. It was not until one soldier happened upon a small water hole that they found a clue. In this waterhole, the soldiers could barely make out the form of a steel door. The soldiers dawned their scuba suits and headed down to the door. It took twenty long minutes to break open the steel door. The door led to an underwater passage to a new cave, the Cave of Dominion. The soldiers feared this cave, for Dominion is a legend in her own that goes back farther than anyone has lived.
Far back, farther than even Kain knew of, there was a great battle over the Earth. Both armies were of enormous size and power. They locked horns and, for forty years, it was a stale mate. Battle after battle, the two forces would slaughter each other. The armies of the East, led by Joseph Forin (yes, they're related), achieved almost certain victory when they assassinated Sergai Revear, the leader of the armies of the North. The East declared themselves victorious and named their empire Glakus. The North was in no way done. They wanted revenge. The appointed a new leader. She was highest-ranking commander in the field. Her name was known as Tifa Keeze. Keeze started attacking the Glakus with quick, unyielding assaults. Using a small group of soldiers to destroy a base, then leave. While the army of Glakus was sent to fight off the small group, another group would attack another base. It kept going like this until the Glakus army was so spread out, it was defenseless against the Keeze's army. Keeze's made special interest in targeting civilians. Men, women, and children were all targets. The Glakus army became afraid for their families. In turn, her own soldiers began to fear her. She became known as the Dominion. Tales of her ruthlessness spread throughout the world. If it hadn't been for the mass destruction of the human race, Tifa Keeze would still be in power. Truly, she was more ruthless and feared than even Kain could hope to be.
It was once said that you reap what you sow. Kain could only think to himself about what he had done to deserve this. Kain had been thinking for days. He was about to repent his evil ways, until a thought flashed in his mind. "You reap what you sow. This doesn't mean that I deserve this, no. It means that my captors will soon be deprived of their very existence." Kain laughed himself to sleep. All he could think about was the great joy he could feel when he tore his captors apart, limb-by-limb.
The soldiers tracked through the cave very carefully. All knew the legend that the Dominion had set traps throughout the cave. Even Kain knew of this. He had never seen the cave before, however, so he didn't know which one it was. The soldiers walked through the path in the cave. A noise. They ducked for cover just as Shadow and Alicia walked by.
"Do you think Kain will find his way out soon?"
"Ha ha ha, I think he will bide his time until we show weakness."
The soldiers listened carefully. They ran back to Biosoldier's tent. "Did you hear that? Kain is there," one soldier said on the way.
"We'll report to Biosoldier and he'll tell us what to do."
And, so, it was done. The soldiers ran and reported to Biosoldier. The entire militia was then called forth. "We have found Kain," screamed Biosoldier, "We will go and fight at dawn!"
"Sir, we're right here. You don't need to yell."
"...Shut up, Isaac."
And thus, the soldiers were told to retire for the night. At dawn, the bludgeoning would commence. For now, Biosoldier's anticipation was growing. He would finally get the revenge he has been waiting for so long to get. Kain's life would be taken and Biosoldier would rule all of Dark World. Biosoldier kept dreaming throughout the night.
Day after day, Alicia looked in at Kain. Every time, Kain just looked deep into her eyes with a cold, harsh look. "He's waiting for his chance to kill me," Alicia thought, "Oh well, we'll see what he can do. Shadow won't let him kill me." Kain spent most of his time reading and learning about Tifa Keeze, the Dominion. He studied her strategies. He listened to personal accounts of what she was like. "If only I had lived in her time. I know we would have been kindred spirits. We could have ruled the world together. That is, until she became dead weight." Kain may have a wish for company every once and a while, but it is usually drowned out by his shear thirst for power. Kain studied and studied until he found a secret. "So, all this time and people thought...she is good, she is good."
"When will our plan commence?"
"Do I really have to keep telling you?"
"I just like hearing you tell it, Shadow."
"You know the answer. Now go, I have to get this done."
"Very well, I'll see you tonight."
Alicia stopped off to check on Kain once more. He was banging his head against a thick book. "Has he gone insane?" She almost screamed it out. Shadow came running. "What is it?"
"Kain's just sitting there beating himself up."
"Kain, stop that!"
"Homni Guartus Moratarti..."
"What's he saying?"
"Horo Shemei Boros..."
"Kain...I think you should lie down for a while."
"Rictus Korol Bluntar..."
"Shadow, what's wrong with him?"
"He's just trying to get us to go inside to help him."
Kain suddenly came out of his trance. "Don't I at least get one phone call?"
Shadow just laughed and said, "no." Shadow and Alicia walked away. Alicia a little worried about Kain's sanity. "That's all right," Kain thought to himself, "I want them to think I will try to trick them."
Back on Bingo, Transmetal is talking with Gerbal about his campaign. "You say I should make all the girls dress up like DoA chicks? Sounds good." Transmetal is the only one who people should be worried about sanity. While Forin and Shen make plans to reinvent the colony's economy, Transmetal is reading manga and eating cheese nips. While the people are preparing questions for the final debate, Transmetal is riding around the streets pretending to be in the Crazy Taxi(c) games. He has caused many of accidents. While Kain devises a way to get revenge, Transmetal is swinging like a monkey through the cities. While Biosoldier rest for war, Transmetal is making prank phone calls to Cheesy Boy. What a choice we have. It reminds me of a certain election, in a certain country, that had a certain two candidates, and a state that wouldn't make up its mind.
Dawn nears. In three hours, Biosoldier will raise his troops to attack Kain. In three hours, Biosoldier will once again see that laughing face, the one that taunted him from the attic window. Biosoldier will meet the only witness to the farmer's murder. Shadow waits for the time to release Kain. Biosoldier will give it to him. Kain is waiting Biosoldier. A war is brewing between Dark World and Bingo. A war is ending between Kain and Biosoldier. Kain knows a secret no one else does about the Dominion. What is this secret? How will he use this knowledge? Will Biosoldier get his revenge? Will this episode never end? All these answers and more, next time on Insert Name Here Wars...
