Episode 6:  The Dark Aftermath

The age of New Beginning has fallen. The age of Kain has begun. With Kain’s dominance of Damien and Sasha and his take over of the Soldiers of Fortune, now called the Nemesis, Kain is seemingly unstoppable. Kylie is forced to hide in the ranks of Nemesis, keeping a close eye on Kain. The Nemesis has spread across the world, laying waste to all those that oppose Kain. Kain himself has begun his preparations for his world take over. He has built his castle retreat on the shores of the Blood Sea. The land that once was home to Damien and his family. The fortress was attacked only twice. Both occasions caused the enemies to be boiled alive in oil. Now, he is merely minutes away from fulfilling his dream of world domination.

“Lord Kain.”

“What is it? I’m busy.”

“General Estevao is here, sir. He wishes an audience with you, my liege. Shall I let him in?”

“Yes, show him in.” The slave runs to the heavy double-doors to let the General in. The general steps into the dark chamber. He pauses, looking at the Throne of Despair. The Throne of Despair is a massive throne, made completely out of the enemies and traitors of the Nemesis. The end of the left armrest is the skull of Ramses, a fierce warrior leader of the resistance on the African continent. He took the name of the greatest Egyptian pharaoh to have ever lived. He also led an attack that almost destroyed a large faction of the Nemesis. Thus, he was regarded by Kain to be the most dangerous enemy. The end of the right armrest is the skull of Damien. Kain wanted to flaunt this kill for all that it was worth. He had beaten his fate. His destiny lay before him. Finally, the world would be his.

“Sir, I am sorry to bother you like this, but...”

“Get on with it, Estevao. I have other matters to attend to.”

“Yes sir, I have arrived to bring you news of victory. The last of the resistances have been destroyed.”

“How many humans does that leave?”

“With the great tragedy that occurred, plus the amount of men and women that died in the war, that leaves about three hundred humans left, sir.”

“Very well, now leave me. I have work to do.” The general bows and dismisses himself. Kain then turns to the camera in his throne room. “Is it ready?”

“Yes sir, we can start at any time.” Kain signals for the cameras to start rolling.

“Good evening. I am your leader, Kain. This is a broadcast to the entire world. In case you haven’t figured out what this means, this means that I now control the entire world. As such, this world must be given a more fitting name than the old name, Earth. You are now all residents of Dark World. You are all now under my control. The resistances have been crushed, and the old world leaders massacred. Dark World is now split into six separate sections. My generals will rule each section. I will rule over the generals. You will be notified of which section you live in and your ruling officer later. I hope this will sit nice and well with all of you. Good bye.” Kain leans back in his chair as the camera is rolled out of the throne room.

“Great speech, sir. Truly, it was one of a kind.”

“Shut up. Bring me the drink slave. I want some Cherry Coke.”

“Yes sir. Barbie Boy! Get in here!” A small, clumsy, blonde boy comes running into the room. He trips over himself several times before finally presenting himself before Kain.

“You called?”

“It’s no wonder your resistance was the easiest to fall. You are the former King Hansen Deusch Bag of the Dust Mites, are you not?”

“Shut up!” Kain raises his eyebrow and narrows his eyes. “Okay, I’m sorry. Don’t hurt me.”

“Bring me a Cherry Coke, slave.”

“Yes sir!” Kain once again leans back in his chair. He sighs and puts his hands over his eyes.

“Slave Morn.”

“Yes sir?”

“I have a message for you to deliver to Sgt. Leon K. Murdock of the 5th Legion.” Kain hands the slave a letter. It is stamped with crushed teeth and sealed with blood. “Deliver this to him as quickly as possible.”

“Yes sir! He will have it in mere hours.” Kain nods. With no more to say he sends the slave away and goes to his chamber for rest. When he walks in, there is a girl sitting on his bed.

“Is there something you want?”

“As a matter of fact, there is.” She pulls out a gun and points it straight at Kain. Kain is completely unfazed. He walks up to her and grabs the gun. She jumps back but is too late. Kain grabs her by the neck and heaves her out the window. It’s a long fall from Kain’s window. His chambers are on the fifteenth floor.

“I probably should’ve opened the window before throwing her out.” Kain shrugs it off, lies down, and falls into a deep sleep.

In the quiet town of Saga II, which is right next to Tokyo III and twelve miles from Tokyo I and II, Saga I, and Springfield, Kylie sits with the rest of the soldiers in her Division in the 5th Legion. Her former commander, Sgt. Leon K. Murdock of the 24th Division, has been promoted to leading the entire 5th Legion. He now answers to only Kain and General Mishkin. Her comrades talk of how great it is to be the Sergeant’s favorite Division. They don’t see battle very often and if they do, it is only a small battle. Li Mei, a friend of Kylie’s, ask her a question, but she doesn’t hear it. “KYLIE!”

“AH! What? You startled me!”

“I asked you: Why do you constantly look up at Kain’s castle?”

“I guess I like the design.”

“Yeah, right. You know, if ya wanna meet Kain, you can probably go in and meet him. I don’t think he’d mind.”

“No. I don’t want to meet him. I just kind of want to sit here and rest.” Li Mei shrugs and goes back to her former conversation. Kylie continues to stare up at a broken, stained-glass window that leads into Kain’s room.

“Hey guys! Stand up, the Sergeant’s coming!”

Kylie leaps to her feet and stands at attention as Sgt. Leon K. Murdock of the 5th Legion makes his way over to them. He smiles and shakes the hand of each of them, telling them how good it is to see them again. He then moves to Kylie.

“Kylie, I need to speak with you in private.” Kylie nods and follows him into an abandoned Catholic church near the resting place. Kylie remembers that a cousin of hers used to go to this church, before Kain moved it to the next town over in order to make his hometown of Saga II a place where church and state were completely separate. It was so separate, that no religion had a building or a temple in the entire city. People had to go to Haven, three miles away, in order to visit a religious organization. Few people were alive and not in the Nemesis. Only three hundred to be exact. Kain doesn’t count the Nemesis because he doesn’t consider them human. He demands that they be considered wolves...or at the very least really mean Chihuahuas. Kylie looked around the church for a few moments and then turned back to Sgt. Leon K. Murdock of the 5th Legion.

“What do you need to talk about, Sgt. Leon K. Murdock of the 5th Legion?”

“I just got an interesting order from Kain. It demands that you die and your skull be brought to him.” Kylie is shocked. She can’t believe that, after all this time, Kain would demand her death.

“So, I guess you have no choice. How am I to be executed?”

“Officially, I shot you and buried you under the rubble of this church for the rats to feast on your corpse. Unofficially, I got my hands on the skull of a dead girl that died from a drive by shooting that will be the replacement for your skull. You, in turn, will roam about or live here, free from Kain’s grasp.”

Kylie becomes overwhelmed with emotion. “Thank you! Thank you so much for everything you’ve done for me!”

“We won’t forget you.” Kylie then starts cleaning up the rubble in the church. Sgt. Leon K. Murdock of the 5th Legion slowly takes out his revolver. He points it and fires. Moments later, he comes out of the church with the bloody skull of a girl in his bag.

“Is the job done?”

“Yes, deliver this to Kain.” The slave grabs the bag and runs off to Kain’s castle. The soldiers in Kylie’s division look shocked as Sgt. Leon K. Murdock of the 5th Legion walks by without even glancing at them. They look back to the church. Li Mei begins to cry at the loss of her friend. They are so stricken with grief that none of them see a girl standing in the top window of the church. She is sad to see her friends so miserable, but Kylie won’t endanger everyone by making herself known. Not yet anyway. A day will come when she must reveal herself. Until then, she makes good use of the company she has. Barbie Boy lives in the shack behind the church. Everyday, her and Barbie Boy talk and play games. This keeps Kylie from going insane. She thinks Barbie Boy is funny, rather than stupid.

Kain wakes up very groggy as a slave raps on his door. “Huh? What is it?!”

“There is someone in your throne room, my lord. He demands to speak to you.”

“Fine. Who is it?”

“He says his name is Transmetal.” Kain’s eyes narrow. He calmly walks out toward the throne. When he gets there he...sits down.

“I assume you want something?”

“I want to give the people here a choice on who rules them. Let me build a colony in the Earth’s...er...Dark World’s orbit. Anyone who wants to go with me can and that will give people a choice. C’mon, what do you say?”

“No.”

“Aw, c’mon. Please?”

“No.” A slave runs into the room.

“Sir! A wormhole opened up and three mysterious devices were shot out. They seem very interesting.”

“Hang on, Transmetal. Bring them here.” The slave leaves and returns with three items. Kain picks the first up.

“What’s this? A small, purple paperweight? It says: Game...Cube. How strange. You can have it, Transmetal.”

“Oh, thanks.” Kain then picks up the next object. It has a slender, black-plastic casing.

“I guess I can use this to prop up a table. It says something: Play...Station...2? Hmm...bring me the last one.” Kain takes one look at the last object. He begins to drool and make weird sounds. “What thing of beauty is this? Oh, it is truly an object of greatness. It says: X BOX. Wow, this must be pure power.”

“Can I touch it?”

“Go away, Transmetal! It’s mine! I saw it first! Leave!”

“I have nowhere to go.”

“Go build that colony with the humans you need. Leave me with my X BOX.” With that, the Container began construction, and with it, Insert Name Here Wars began. To think, if it wasn’t for a hole being ripped in the space-time continuum, hurling an X BOX, a GameCube, and a PS2 into Dark World, this never would have happened. Some of you might be wondering about Jabox 4 and the Omega Project. Well, you’ll have to wait for the sequel to Insert Name Here Wars called: Crimson Run in order to find that out...and to find out the true ending to this saga.
