A Pointless Night

Written by: Kain

Two warriors face each other atop a tall plateau. The edge of the plateau slowly crumbles, falling down into the stalagmite filled valley below. To fall from this plateau would be a death sentence. The first warrior, a shinobi fully covered in black with glowing blue eyes, makes the first move. He dashes at his opponent, an undead zombie wearing only a red headband, black pants, and chains wrapped around his wrists. The shinobi comes upon his opponent with a downward strike. The zombie easily dodges the attack and follows with a two-kick combo, sending the shinobi falling to his back. Taking out a pair of nunchakus, the zombie continues to punish the shinobi. Combo after combo, the shinobi comes closer and closer to death. The zombie flies at the shinobi, deliver a flying kick to his chest. The zombie rolls to the edge, but jumps to his feet nearly immediately. The zombie runs at him once again but this time the shinobi strikes first. He throws his foot straight at the zombie’s face, but the zombie twirls around and finds himself behind the shinobi. Before the final strike can be dealt however, the edge of the plateau collapses and the zombie falls. The zombie slams hard against a stalagmite, impaling himself. The battle is over.

“Well, damn it.” Kain drops the controller and leans against the wall behind him.

“Ha! I won!” Jabox 4 exclaims with glee. Kain looks at him harshly.

“Oh...there will be a rematch.”

“Well if you wouldn’t show off so much, I wouldn’t have won that one.”

“I wasn’t showing…ok, fine. Maybe I was showboating a little.” Jabox 4 looks at him as if he just stated that World War 2 was a minor skirmish. Kain looks around uneasily, knowing Jabox had a point.

“Let’s take a break from games, shall we?”

“Yeah, ok. What do you wanna do?” Kain thinks for a moment.

“Let’s go bug the matchstick.” An evil grin spreads across Jabox’s lips.

Transmetal sits at the dark, wooden table in his dining room, quietly having dinner with his family.

“Pass the butter, Trans.” Transmetal’s little brother politely asks only to get a harsh look from Trans who had to stop shoveling pasta into his face to answer him.

“Get it yourself.”

“But you’re closer!”

“Well, that doesn’t mean I’m farther now does it?”

“What?”

“You heard me.”

Trans’s brother looks upon him with confusion. “Yeah, I think that’s the problem.”

Transmetal is about to go back to eating when a knock comes at the door. Annoyed, Transmetal gets up and wanders towards the front door. He opens the door only to see nothing but the night. He sticks his head out of the door frame and looks around. Again, he sees nothing. He slams the door shut and mutters to himself about not be able to eat dinner because of pranksters. As he begrudgingly turns around, he notices his back door open. He moves back to his dining room to check on his brother. There he finds Kain and Jabox devouring all of his food. His eye twitches.

“What the Hell are you guys doing?” Kain and Jabox don’t look at him. They just continue eating. Trans lowers his head in defeat.

After they ate, Kain and Jabox decided to let Trans in on there plan. “So you guys just decided to bug me?”

“Pretty much.”

“But…why?” Kain and Jabox shrug in unison. Transmetal grabs his keys.

“Alright, let’s go.” Kain and company pile into Transmetal’s van and head off into the night. Needless to say, their exploits went as far as Trans yelling at a McDonald’s employee through the closed window, Jabox fell asleep shortly after leaving, and Kain ended up running from a tiger he had “released” from the zoo. How he got away is still unknown. Trans brother is still sitting at the dinner table, wondering where his brother went.
