Title: Azurik: Rise of Perathia
Developer: Adrenium Games
Publisher: Microsoft
System: XBOX
Released: 11/15/01 ...I think

Review by: Kain

Only once in a few years do I play a game like Azurik... Thank God!

Azurik must go through his land of perathia in order to collect different artifacts that were scattered through out Perathia when a traitor killed your master. You must find these artifacts and return them in order to save perathia.

First Glance

At first, I thought this game might be X BOX’s answer to Zelda or Soul Reaver, you know, those classic and great games. Well, upon reaching the first long load time, I began to think that, if it was, X BOX may need help.

Graphics

Horrible for an X BOX game, just horrible. How could they do this? Horrible! The graphics are bland and dull. The horrible color designs make it even worse.

Sound

Wow, the game actually has a pretty good soundtrack... until they play the same 30 seconds of music through out the entire game! The music is soft and hard to hear. It gets boring and monotonous to listen to. It should allow people to make their own soundtrack for it.

Gameplay

OH MY GOD! The boring and sluggish adventure game should be and is banned from ever being on my shelf. It is just too bad to tell... but I’ll try. The levels are interlocked, which I have no problem with, but the goals are unclear and the action is very limited and doesn’t show up a lot.

Controls

The controls aren’t shaky, but are sluggish. You would be better off playing with beans and franks. The weapons that are available are unlocked by a string of button presses and take too long to bring up. By the time you get the desired weapon the enemies notice where you are and begin to clumsily make their way over to you. Then you have to wait until they get to you or you have to go to them... just not worth it.

Overview/Recap

I’m not even gonna bother...

The Good, The Bad, The Confusing
  • + Eventually, the game will let you play.
  • + The character does stuff

  • - Everything else
  • ? Is Azurik an overgrown smurf?

    Graphics: 4/10
Dull, horrible color design. Yet, still a poor framerate... hmm...
As the Official X BOX Magazine staff wrote, "The art staff was clearly asleep at the wheel."

    Sound: 4/10
Very stylish, yet quite and repetitive

    Gameplay: 0/10
Boring, monotonous, tedious... any other words?

    Control: 3/10
Really shaky and just all around bad

    Overall (not an average): 2.3/10
A nice try, but I think it needed a lot more work.
